ibeachalot's Diaryland Diary

What CAN go wrong... WILL. Alot.

List of things that have gone wrong in the past two days...

~ My mail appears to be floating in space somewhere between my old address and my new one. I ordered my mail to be forwarded as of Saturday. I haven't received mail here since Friday and have yet to receive it at the apartment. It shouldn't take the better part of a week for mail to be forwarded ten fucking miles.

~ We can't close on our house until we get the lien off our property!! Yes, someone has placed a lien on this place. We assumed it was our HOA. Because of their refusal to enforce the convenants, we've failed to pay dues in three years. Well... it wasn't the HOA. It was our sewer service! Kevin called them to find WTF is going on. They checked the account and agreed that we're in good standing with them and shouldn't have a lien in place. The lien was issued in 1998. Kevin asked them to kindly lift it so we may proceed with our homeselling process. They said, "Of course! That'll be $25."

AAAAAAAUUUUGGGHHH!!

They agree the lien was placed in error, but we have to pay to have it removed??

Then the biggest blow of all.

~ We finally received pay off on this house. All, except for the $5000 prepayment penalty.

Does it ever end?

We never agreed to anything like this in our loan. In fact, our mortgage broker specifically sought us a loan that didn't have a penalty, because we fully intended upon either refinancing again this summer or moving. We had a very high interest rate because of our poor credit and were told by now we'd be able to get out from under it and get a lower interest loan. Why would we get a loan with a prepayment penalty then?

If we can't get them to forego this fee, we'll have eaten up a huge chunk of our equity needed for the down payment and closing costs on our new home. Kevin is ballistic and ready to scrap the whole plan, which means I have to listen to his non-stop bitching and complaining.

Here's a tip from your auntie Linda....

Rent.
